I have a sending unit that wasn’t working. These are not available anymore. I think I have it working but there is a small cylinder the ground wire runs through that seems to be bad. Does anyone know what this is and what it does? Any help would be appreciated.

Post a pic. The WD doesn't show anything but ground wires, but someone may have added a condenser to stabilize a bouncy gauge.

VStar650CL. Sorry I’m new here and haven’t figured out how to post pics yet. The Zstore has a pic on their website. Factory fuel tank sending unit, 90-8/93 300 XX 2+2 non turbo

I dunno. Wire runs through it, so it can't be a capacitor. I wonder if it isn't a thermistor for temperature compensation. Like I said, the WD shows nothing, so it must be integral to the assembly.
