1991 240sx w/ sr....transmission prob?

ok, so lately my car has been driving funny....i would feel that the car lost power....and everytime i warm up the car it makes this scratching noise...coming from the transmission i believe. and when i drive in gears...it makes this winding noise...really annoys the hell out of me. so then one time i was going to work on the freeway....i'm in 5th gear...then all of a sudden i hear something snap. and i'm like "OH DAMN!" then the car shuts off. i pull over....start the car again....puts it in gear... and it wont budge....EVEN in neutral it dies out. and my dad comes over and puts it in 5th gear. rides the hell out of the clutch...and it moves a lil. so i'm guessing it's stuck in 5th...is this a clutch or a transmission problem? the cars at my house. and i miss driving the poor thing.

sounds like the transmission is jamed in a gear, you may have broke a shift fork or somthing. take it somewere and pull the transmission, put it in neutral and spin the imput shaft while holding the output. the output shaft should not spin at all as you turn the imput

put it in 4th gear and see if it will move. If it does and it wont move in any other gear you snap your counter shaft key at the input gears.
