I have read the excellent sticky on how to adapt your car from an automatic trans to manual, but was curious that there was not any mention on changing out the pilot bushing. I do know there is a difference in them, the automatic bushing being slightly larger. I have also been told by someone that it is not really necessary to remove the automatic bushing, just enlarge the opening sufficently to seat the new (manual) bushing in place. Seemed a bit odd to me, but honestly, I have very little experience with 240's.

I was wondering if some of you experienced guys and guru's could shed some light on this. Is it necessary to change out the bushing?

I have changed it personally and would recommend it, but I've not yet seen anyone who hadn't changed that pilot bushing get screwed yet *knocks on wood*

Thanks for the reply. Kinda makes sense to me. I was able to find another thread which had pictures showing the bushing being changed.

umm...actually I just got screwed from that haha. I recently bought an automatic engine and thought that bushing was ok to leave in there. About a week later my clutch was acting funny. Turns out that bushing was interfering with my input shaft. Caused all kinds of grinding. My recommendation - change it out!! Make sure you install the m/t pilot bushing
