When i bought my 240 it overheated badly, prev owner though it had a bad head gasket, after a week long shop visit and a good sized bill, it stoped overheating. The problem turned out to be -so the shop said- a cloged heater core.

4 months goes by

Just got the car back from a total distributor failure. (aint i lucky?)

on the way home yesterday, heat went way up to hot including boil over in the overflow. waited for it to cool, opened the radiator, look near dry, so i filled it with 2 litres of 1/8 coolant7/8 water mix. And went on test drive, went about 7 miles (circular test path i follow of about 10 mi total) heat way up to H so i pull over, shut it down let it cool, and then check radiator, low again. filled it up (brought a 2-liter botle of water with me) took about half of it. drove home pissed off. The last leg it didnt overheat.

This morning i checked the fluid level, still full, drove to work, ~8 miles didnt over heat, but i did drive granny style never reving above 2500. Whats going on? should i go back to the shop or just call it a fluke?

Well, my guess is that they drained the heater core to unclog it or replace it, and just never filled the coolant back up.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts happening again.
