1991 240sx: New clutch?

I think I need a new clutch but I wanted to run this by you before I pull my transmisasion..

I launched my car the other day, 1st and 2nd were smooth as usual, but all of a sudden it wouldn't go into 3rd, like the gear was pushing back. So I slowed down and went back into second and drove home. But every time I let the clutch out it would studder, instead of coming out smoothly. Half-way home all the gears quit and I could put it in any gear and floor-it and not move at all (like I was still in neutral). I was able to push my car home but it still will not respond when in gear. What's your take?

when you press the clutch pedal, is the slave cylinder moving?
