So I went to have a look at a 240 today (looking to buy one). Long story short i offered and he said too low so i walked. Now the problem that it had was it had a rough idle. It was fluttering between about 1000 and about 700 sometimes it would drop to about 500. It had about 160 thousand kilometers on it. the second problem that i noticed was that the engine would shake profusely especially when it jumped up from those low rpm idles. the only mods he had on the car was an air filter and a 2.5" cat back. I know its not my car so your asking why do you care? well im curious as to if my offer was a little bit of a low ball or not. Thank you

for a rough idle. try a grounding kit. look it up, make your own its cheaper, and it helped me a lot!

also, do a tune up. new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, cap, rotor, oilthat could never hurt (however, filters and oil will not help out with rough idle too noticeably, but do it anyways)

as for the shaking, make sure ur motor mounts are intact(not broken) and if intact, tighten them down.

however, the motor is going to shake no matter what. so it might be normal, just not normal compared to what u are used to.

hope it helps

could be bad sensors, bad maf, bad fuel (if it's been sitting for a while). rough/erratic idle can be caused by many factors.

also, what did you offer for it?

okay so in concolusion... it would need some work. He had it up for 4500. I figured if the price is that steep then it better be the best condition s13 ive ever seen. turns out it was a peice of s*** rusted underbody rusted wheel wells. it had the s*** brown interior which im not a fan of. it had faded door panels and steering wheel. and the rear seat was not intact it was just sitting on top of the floor. the trunk was rusted and all scratched up )i think it was keyed like multiple times cuz there was circles drawn into the paint) it had like half of a spoiler literally like someone ripped half of it off) So i said i wouldnt even pay 3000 for it. and he was like. oh I need more than that. so i was like k pce.

The search continues!

oh also when i took it for a drive the windshield wipers went on randomely. scared the s*** out of us. so bad electrical. and i guess it didnt need a key? the way he explained it was kinda sketchy but he has a remote start which disabled using the key ignition? I dont know. by the i was pretty sure that this was not the car for me so i didnt ask any questions on that.

yeah 3000 is even really steep for the amount of problems. I found a redtop s13 in perfect condition for 3 500 with lots of goodies. but it was a 5 hour drive and there was "inner body" rust so my dad didnt let me look at it. but thats another story

ive got one for ya; so i bought a 92 HB from FL. i get 100 miles into my 1500 mile drive back and it starts idle badly, weird sorta power band too. the engine was a bit more shaky too. while i was going through the normal things (on the side of the road) like plugs, wires, rotor, maf was good, noticed it also had a brand new battery, water pump, power steering pump, plus a brand new alternator!!

someone knew something wasnt right so they decided to sell it to ME and lied with "ready for a long ride home"!!

so now what could the problem be.... hm. i see the alternator is NOT PLUGGED INTO THE CARS WIRING HARNESS!

still, nothing changed. then i started unplugging the injectors. engine almost died on each one (as you would expect) except cyl #4... NOTHING HAPPENED!! yay i found my problem problem: bad injector

so i finish the drive (1400 miles) on three cylinders...

I had a similar problem it was my air idle control valve that was clogged with junk from over 15 years or so. I cleaned it and he idle problem went away. the Motor shaking like it coming out of the car shaking or dying shaking?

i dont understand those 2 concepts of shaking. it was when the idle would drop then raise it shook from side to side

when the motor shakes dose the car want to die or dose it just shake if it shakes it could be a bad motor mount if it wants to die it is something else and needs to go from there.

Question: how'd you guy's clean the iacv? My dad's 240 seems to be experiencing the same problem.

hardest part about the iacv is getting it off then just take it all apart and use carb cleaner and clean each part put it back together and wah lah i just did this yesterday and didn't do a thing for my idle issue. running out of options. masf next then coolant temp sensor then egr valve the o2 sensors front first then rear.
