car.......................1991 240sx DOHCproblem...............#4 cylider missing

ok, the car was not fireing on all cylinders, so i pulled each wire and narrowed it to #4, i changed the plug with a new one and the problem remained. so i pulled the injector and tryed to use an oms meter, and im getting .005 , but im not getting this from the injector prongs, its from the metal on the top and the side of the injector, i cant seem to get anything off the injector prongs...im guessing this is bad. so my plan of attack is to hit the junk yard and find one that will read "mid teens". now the questions i have are this...does the injector need to be seated to get a correct reading?, im guessing while its seated , its grounded...the other question is, what can i use to clean the used injector that i get from the junk yard, and how...? i was thinking, spray some carb cleaner onto the screens and around where it sprays...let me know if im doing this right. ........thanx guys

thanx for the feed back, but im not in the position to loose $75 right now, thats why im hitting the yards to get used one. so cleaners really dont work on them huh?....ok so then what is the correct way to test an injector with it out of the car? i dont know if i just got the oms reader in the wrong position, its set in the 200 mark, but i cant get a reading off the injector prongs....

take a long screwdriver and put it up against the injector while the car is running and put your ear to the screwdriver if you hear clickin it works

i did that while it was in and i have to say...to any one doing that with only 3 cylinders running, it is a very hard task, the motor all shakeing and stuff! i pulled the injector to test it but i just need to know how.....?

yeah the click method works.

however, you will hear some clicking transfered from other injectors but it will be quieter on the bad one.

if you are unsure about your test of the injector resistance try comparing to the others. the rail doesnt provide any ground or anthing so it will test the same on the car as off.

you cannot clean the injector off the car. best bet is use good name brand cleaner in the gas tank once installed.

sometimes a new or used injector will not work due to sticking internally. try whacking it with a screwdriver to loosen her up.

the shaking is the motor skipping... the only way to pull an injector and test it is to take it to a shop that has a machine that makes the injector spray. the screw driver check is the best.

***FIX IT OR YOU COULD TEAR SOMETHING UP MAJOR THAN JUST A 75$ PART- YOU COULD MELT A PISTON RING OR SOMETHING!!!!**** BECAREFUL I WOULD SPEND THE 75 TO FIX IT... DONT RECOMMEND GETTING A USED ONE**

i know all the other stuff , but now your freakin me out.....how would i melt a piston ring?!?ok , my current status is , i got the injector out, i got the holes pluged in the rail, and their may be about 4 table spoons of fuel sitting in the cylinder from when i pulled the injector. all i need now is to slap a working injector in and im set right?

You cant drive it obviously till you get a injector in. Your not going to melt a piston ring. When you get the injector slap it in. It is either going to work or its not. You had your meter set right for the test. you are looking for mid teens as you suspected. Just check the others you know work to be sure your meter is reading.
