1991 240sx: crankshaft position sensor and ignition signal circuit code

Yesterday my car would not start and I was getting crankshaft position sensor circuit, ignition signal circuit and speed sensor circuit codes. For a few weeks I have had the speed sensor circuit code but my speedometer is fine. The car runs kind of rough but very subtle. Tiny backfires that you dont really notice unless you listen carefully. Today Im getting the knock sensor code and the ignition signal circuit code only. Car is starting fine today.

My ignition module seems ok as far as the above chart is concerned. I initially used the 200 ohm scale and it read infinite but I used the 200000 scale and got lots of ohms where they were supposed to be.

Other than the code how di your car drive before you decided to test the module?

I have suspected the module on our race car but did not have the chart you showed (thanks for that) and we do not have a dash therefore no check engine light to signal a problem.

Just wondering wht your symptoms were so I can compare to our car.

Your car has a different ignition module. Search for ignition module in archives. I did a thread on testing the 89/90 quite a while ago.

My car engine shut down while driving today. Started up after a few minutes of resting. Also hard to start. Ordered a new ignition module.

Put a new ignition module in. Still getting code 21. It seems I have to disconnect battery to start car. Car is now starting at all.

I went to wrecking yard and bought starter for $20. He told me right away that nobody buys them because they never go. He told me over and over that I was wasting my money. He said that distributors go like crazy and he sells them for $200.
