Bought '91 240sx at DWI auction, as-is. Got it home, started it, ran good but wouldn't go into gear (except when engine off). Checked fluid ok, put it up on ramps, pulled rubber off slave cylinder and fluid came out. Replaced slave, bled slave, no change. Replaced master, bled slave and "damper control." Went into gear once but that was it. Only way to get into gear is to start in same. Will drive then but can't shift. Petal adjusted to specs. Asked trans shop guy and he said he had same problem, replaced clutch twice with car towed back after later refusing to go into gear. Took it to Nissan dealer and they fixed w/o replacing clutch. Doesn't know what they did. He force-bled system on the car he repaired after replacing master and slave. Only part left is damper control, which has some internals but have to buy complete assembly, about $40. Which is ok if that's what it is. I checked with service at Nissan and they said no idea; only suggestion was to bring it in and have them look at it. Of course! Anyone else had this problem?

Why does it say "driving mom's car"? I didn't put that in. My mom's in her 80's and never had a car my dad didn't have!

I dont really know about your problem, but you can remove the damper box from the clutch line system. Unbolt the hard line from the damper box that comes from the master cylinder, unbolt the line from the box to the rubber line going to the slave cylinder. CAREFULLY bent the line from the master to meet up with the rubber line and bolt it on. I did this to a friends 91 today, and am going to do it to my 91 tomorrow. Its great to be able to experiment with someone elses car first :).

The phrase after your name (Driving Mom's Car) changes based on how many posts you have written.

I could take out the damper control but not quite the way you suggest. All my lines are hard lines. I would have to put something between the two hard lines. A coupler of some kind. If the clutch worked then I would figure it was the damper. Then buy a new one. Probably not a bad idea anyway for "preventive" measures. thanks, bill

there should be a rubber line that comes out of the slave to a bracket on the body, not a hard line, check this link out, it has pictures on how to do it
