I'm installing a Flex-a-Lite fan and one of the steps it connect a wire to an "ignition-controlled" source. I don't know what this means. I know if i connect it to the battery the fan will run even when the car is turned off, i don't want this. If anyone can help me out, that would be great.

A wire that only has power when the ignition is on, a 12 volt switched power supply.

where would one of these ignition controlled wires be and how do I connect to it. As you can tell, I'm not very good with wires.

It really is a job for a mechanic. There is a black with red stripe wire that goes from ignition to ignition coil and to two 10 amp fuses(fuel pump and engine cont) in the relay box(see link) by battery. I would have an extra fuse in there because you dont want to blow the fuse to your ignition coil or fuel pump relay fuse.
