I have a friend who just purchased a 1990Q. Very low mileage, around 85,000 miles. He took it to the dealer to get the heater fixed and the dealer said it needed $4500 in repairs. Shocks were mentioned; I'm not sure of the details.Anyone know of a good independent mechanic in Portland, OR so this guy can get a second opinion?

Thanks.

Doug

Eric at Beaverton Infiniti is a senior Infiniti technician and knows the G50 inside and out. Beaverton will let you bring your own parts, but probably own't warranty them.

Wonder if they included the timing chain guides?

I am surprised they did not find more that needed replacement.

Never heard of a knowledgeable G50 independent tech in the Pacific NW while I lived in Seattle.

Only $4500 in repairs [dealer quote*] means your friend found a pristine perfect 16 year old Q.

We usually find double to triple that amount [list price parts and $75/hour labor].The 85k mileage means little as the years do much more damage to the thousands of rubber and plastic parts.

* However dealers and shops do triage and may limit the list to CRITICAL things that have actually failed [leaking shocks] vs things that are worn or not fully functioning.

Try to find a Nissan 300zx specialty shop for simple mechanical things [shocks which you buy from ebay and our advertisers at discounts].

Generally the bill is parts 60% and labor is 40% [in rural areas].
