I read your interaction on the following topic (zerothread/351675) and wondered if this could be a similar "fix"?

You can actually hear a whining noise in my dash on occasion (with no apparnet event causing it) as the actuators that control the air-flow from upper to lower A/C vents changes back and forth. I can turn the directional flow switch to make it stop and/or go back to where I had it set.

Does this sould like a simple repair? Even the fact that you can hear them change the direction sounds suspect since when working correctly, you can't hear them change the direction. Does that suggest a problem with the physical actuator motors or a main electronic control unit somewhere?
