1990 Sentra 4speed to 5speed conversion

Hey everybody, I recently bought a 1990 Sentra with a 4speed that I use as a beater. I wanna convert it to 5speed so I can get better mileage on the highway, and would like to know is if all I need is a 5speed trans or will I need to grab the shifter cables as well? Any answers would be great, this is my first FWD car and its to reliable to give it up. Thanks

yeah i think i have the same car. its a cable clutch and a rod is used to change gears, you shouldn't have to woory about the clutch part of it but you may need to get the shift linkage with the transmission but it shouldn't be hard to find. its the same motor as all the other 1.6 sentra's. good luck....does your car have a/c or power steering. mine doesn't bone stock

You ought to be able to swap the trans out of a 91-94 1.6 Sentra. I'd go ahead and grab all the linkages and such to be on the safe side, but if I were to guess, I'd say that all you need is the trans.

Thanks guys, I came across a 5speed transmission in the junkyard last weekend and wanted to pull it. I'll just grab everything and go from there, thanks again.

And yes I do have a/c(very cold) but no power steering which isnt to bad at all. I got the car from the original owner who couldnt drive stick anymore and I got it with 70,000 on it.

You can snag the power steering unit and steering column from a Pulsar to upgrade it - I did it to mine, it's all bolt in.
