1990 s13 w/ redtop sr20det driveshaft issue

Trying to connect transmission to driveshaft, the spline ( peice that removes from the end of the transmission) cant be all the way into the transmission and still connect to the driveshaft. There is a small gap between the end of the transmission and the spline, how can i fix this? Am i just not pushing them together hard enough or is it something more serious?

How big of a gap are you talking about?

its roughly a half inch... this is my first swap so not sure if its a big deal or if its supposed to be like that
