Hi,

I hope someone can help me out here. I have a 1990 S13 Silvia non-turbo (CA18DE), Imported from Japan to Australia.

I am trying to change the automatice tranmission fluid, however, after puting the car up on ramps and looking for the drain and refill points, I am stumped as to how to do the job!!. There is no drain on the transmission sump pan?

I have located three 'plug' type bolts on the left hand side of the box, however access to these bolts is limited by the exhaust sheild, and don't seem to be low enough to allow all of the fluid to be removed. I don't want to attempt to remove these plug bolts as I don't know whether they may be acting as retainers for someting else inside the transmission.

Is there something I am missing? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Many thanks in advance

The CA forum would be a little better place to ask this question as they will be very familiar with your motor and hopefully the auto transmission as well.

There should be a black metal transmission pan on the bottom of the transmission. It will have around 18 bolts holding it onto the tranmission. The size of the bolt head will probably be around 10mm. If there is no drain plug in this pan, you must remove all of the bolts and remove the actual pan itself. Start at one end of the pan(front or back) and work your way back. This will allow the fluid to drain out of the other end. Keep in mind, this will probably be messy and you will want a decent sized drain pan, preferably one that is bigger than the transmission pan.

Yup, super dooper messy job.

You will also have to replace the transmission gasket (you can check out one of my links below and call those places)...

The only other way, is to get an "oil change pump" and get the transmission fluid out from the transmission fluid level check area.

Something like the LiquiVac

Or Fluid Evacuator E-Z Trans/Engine Oil Change Mityvac

Thanks very much for the help. Yes there is a black oil pan with 10mm bolts and I was starting to think this might be the only solution. Oh well, ,time to get dirty!!

Again much appreciated from here in Aus. Cheers
