Like the title says. I have a 1996 q45, would the 1990 door bolt up to the 1996? Would the door panels work and what about wiring harnes?

I ask, because my door is crushed. If I do get it open, im not sure it will close again. So I dont want to just shot gun it and be stuck with a tarp over the door.

Also, I have access to any part off of a 1990 q45. It's my buddies, and it spun a rod bearing and he is giving me any part that I want off of it before it goes to the yard. So if anybody needs a part, let me know and shoot me a offer, it'll be going to him to fund his next car purchase lol.

Texas oil once told me that the metal on the 1994-1996 Q45's is thinner than the 1990-1993 Q45's.

The wiring harness is easy to swap out as not all of it would match I think. The door light and the door lock actuator should work as should the cigarette lighter part, but the power window I think has a different connector.

The molding is of a different style as well.

How many miles on the '90 Q?

:welcome: to NICO Redman-Racer!

Depending on your location, I would try to get a 94-96 door instead of dealing with the hassels of swapping out the electronics. If you have a www.pullapart.com or similar type yard with a 94-96 nearby, that would be your cheapest option. The door glass is also thicker from 94+, so there's another difference. Not sure if the tracks were the same. As Paul mentioned, the outside molding is a different style.

The 94+ is amazingly different to be pretty much the same car at first glance.

the harness wouldn't be that big of a deal. That window currently doesn't work anyways, and its the back so that doesn't bother me either.

The only reason I want to do it, is because I'm getting all the parts I need for absolutely free of charge, and painted for just the price of materials. I figure a whole door at a salvage yard, if I can even find one in a yard, would be $200 pluss, and I just don't have the money for that right now.

I didn't realize the molding was different though. I'll have too look at that, if its not that noticeable I could live with that though.

The 1990 (parts car) has 17x,xxx miles one it.

I'm guessing, that the '90 door will bolt up and open/close properly in the '96?

Thanks for the welcome.

I think the '90 door would bolt up and close/open fine. The door is about $35 at a pull-a-part that I linked - but I don't know where you're located. I'm a little spoiled in that our location is nearby and has a pretty regular trickle of old Q45s passing through.

You could check www.car-part.com for donors near you... I'm thinking shipping would be expensive. I think the moulding difference is the biggest difference that you'll have to decide if you can live with.

Thanks, I dont know why i didn't thank of looking on there. I've probably used it 100 times. But they have a door on there with some door dings, for $90.

Thanks guys, I'll probably wait until my next pay check and get the right door for the car.

One last question, will the steering rack from the '90 work on the '96?

I'm pretty sure the rack would bolt up. I know the steering was lightened up during the '94 revision (easier to turn, less feedback) but I'm not sure if anything else changed.

Sweet, thats good news. By lightened up, do you mean more turns lock to lock, or just better designed so the PS worked better?

Different steering ratio. I guess that's more turns (or is it less?) lock to lock. The earlier years were less sensitive and more BMW-like, while the later years got softer and more sensitive - more like a US luxury car.
