1990 Q45A , randomly "deactivating"

Any ideas what would cause an active to randomly act like its riding on springs only? One minute its super smooth and absorbing every bump , then i can hear a loud click and suddenly its riding on springs only?

Is the ACTIVE light in the dash green all the time when this happens? Have you checked for codes?
