I have a Q45 with 86,000 miles that was sitting for 8 years and the fuel pump corroded , I needed to have my fuel tank removed and cleaned and the pump replaced. The car started immediately. No problem. It was parked at my office 10 miles from my home. I drove the car to my house, parked it for another 3 years.... And the pump rusted again. I replaced it, but now the car will not start. I have a new battery, when I turn on the ignition without cranking, the pump works and delivers fuel all the way to the brand new filter I put today. But will not start. I have put a soaked towel with gasoline at the air intake, and the car started immediately, sucking the fuel from the towel, and as soon as the fuel finished the car would not start again.

Any ideas? Perhaps

Just to make sure that I hooked up correctly the fuel hoses , I have the hose coming from the fuel filter connect to the outer most intake metal pipe (closer to the bumper and the other hose that goes under the car is connected to the inner pipe ( closer to the windshield) .

That is correct. The line into the fuel rail is also the line to measure fuel pressure. In the following picture you can see the fuel pressure gauge in the line into the fuel rail. Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge? I bought the one in the picture at Harbor Freight.

Are the injectors firing? Obviously if you put the fuel-soaked rag in the intake and it started it's a fuel delivery problem. I think the most likely cause is possibly inadequate fuel pressure, like Craig said check the fuel pressure. Should be 42 PSI when you turn the key on.. If you're getting that, I wonder if you have some funny business with the injectors happening because it's been sitting so long.

The Car drove perfectly after sitting 8 years. It had a clean tank and new pump.
If the pressure is not good what could it be? I do get fuel coming from the return line.
