Right rear speaker squeals only when engine is running. There is a loud hum [something is running?] in the trunk when the above problem exists.

What about with the ignition ON does it do it?

I would have to say that the AMP in the speaker is bad.

To remove the speaker go here: http://carstereohelp.com/stere...R.htm

To remove the Amplifier: http://carstereohelp.com/stere...e.htm

Have the chain guides been done? zerothread?id=25201

What about alternator or the battery when were they replaced?

But I seriously think its still bad maybe when the car shakes at idle is whats causing it but doubtful.

Should also check the fuel pump, it will create a hum (sounds like a swarm of bees are trapped in the trunk).

Welcome to NICO Pete. If you're a DIY'er you've come to the right place.

Open the trunk and listen. Does it sound like a swarm of bees? How many miles on your Q? 120K plus? Ever had your fuel pump changed? It's probably the fuel pump ($250) and you'll need to change it fast before it takes out your fuel pump control unit (FPCU, about 3X as expensive as the FP). As Paul said your speaker issue is a dying amp attached to the speaker. Go to the parts forum and see if a member has one for sale.

Tell us more about your ownership and maintenance history. Q45.org (sister site) is a good plce to start reading about your Q, especially the Tech Help section (i.e. fuel pump R&R). When you're done there, come back here and search more. Lots of great info in both places. We're looking forward to a lot more posts from you and in the process your Q will take little steps toward running like new again.

Wasn't the 1990 Bose speaker amplifiers subject to a recall?

Call Bose and ask very nicely.

The redesigned 1991 amps were subject to recall [once]..........due to a run of defective capacitors.

All others seem to last thru the 10 year legal life beyond which all bets are off.

Bose will repair cone surrond and amplifiers for a reasonable price.

A squealing speaker can mean the speakers amplifier is going bad.

A hum in the trunk is usually a sign of the fuel pump going bad. Typically goes bad after 120,000 miles and it happens on every Q45 so its something to diagnose.
