Hi Q45tech! Its Bond - been a while, and put 100K miles on the old Q since I bought it in 7/99! After 155K miles, 1990 Q45 Compressor went BANG!, stalled engine, question is:

1/ A/C had been a little noisy at idle for about 2 years, is system contamination common upon this type of failure? - I recall flushing an old General Motors system AND having to install a large inline filter on the high side to collect what was missed to avoid contaminating the new unit.2/ Best way to flush system? - do I need to install an aftermarket iline filter to protect the new compressor? - where do I put it?3/ Any words of wisdom? - I am planning on buying a new unit from dealer (Scottsdale Infiniti @ 563.00 [25% off] + new dryer)

Thanks!

Bond

An A/C shop should have the equipment to thoroughly flush the system before installing the compressor. If you want to install the compressor yourself, leave the lines off and all orifices plugged, then take it to the shop and let them have at it with their machine.

Bond, you've posted before? Did you create a new account? Is the $563 before or after the core charge?

I started the alt.autos.infiniti.q45 group on 7/99, Q45tech (then called Q45man) was one of the first active posters. The group then moved to the yahoo site a few years ago (Q45tech posted his last message to alt.autos.infiniti.q45 on 5/7/2000). I then found NICO, and lo and behold the old gang is here from alt.autos.infiniti.q45. This is the first posting with NICO

$563 is for new unit according to Scottsdale Infiniti, therefore no core.

Quote »I started the alt.autos.infiniti.q45 ... [that USENET] group then moved to yahoo ... I then found NICO ... [/quote]This is off topic, so, I'll be brief.

Likewise, I first looked to the USENET to obtain (and provide where possible) Infiniti Q45 mechanical advice; having been dissapointed with the USENET, I also tried Yahoo; and, lo and behold ... soon thereafter, I too found NICO (and never looked back!).

It's just amazing, for whatever reasons, how much better NICO is than those other admittedly still venerable Internet institutions! I'm not sure what formula NICO uses to beat those estimable Internet fixtures ...but it does (handily).

Great comment Brian!..:thumbup

All: Yes The old yahoogang moved over here as a group early 2001.

Most of The guys who are over there came after the move and regularily we see folks come over here.

Also 2 out of 4 Nico Admins are from the old yahoo group and of course Dennis is a SuperModerator here and still the heart and soul of the Infinitigang

Fred...:)

PS: Anyone hear from TeeJay lately?

Don't forget to replace both flex lines as the R12 ones tended to fail from the inside after about 6-7 years........where lots of the black rubber contamination came from.

Hey Bond, Welcome to the NICO site, still remember you from the newsgroup and then the yahoo site.Glad to see you found your way here!Had a similar experiance 2 years ago on my 90 Q. Bang, Stall and no AC, replaced just about everything in the system, including the compressor.

If I remember correctly, you'll need 2 dryers, one for the flush and one for the new system. Make sure they leave it on vac. for at least an hour to get all the possible contaminants out of the system.

I ended up replacing everything, as it was so old, I didn't want already suspect hardware failing and fouling the system again.

Good luck!

Hey Bond!

I guess the Porsche is a new toy. What did you have before that? (I forgot).

Hi Greg - I had an 86 Testarossa before the 01 Porsche twin turbo. I've had the new toy about 8 months now - got her with only 4K miles.
