As the title says……..found that purple little guy(brake light sensor) in the trunk, disconnected and pushed the brakes a few times gets the warning to go out. Tells me the brake light sensor module is bad.
Main problem is…..this part is classified as unobtanium, alas though…there is a fix that requires no parts but disables the warning system. If any of you have tried unplugging this and pressing the brakes you see that you have no brake lights, but the warning will go out if the module is faulty.
Using a wiring diagram I found the yellow with red chaser is the output to the combo meter. When a bulb burns out it you see it in terms of voltage drop on that terminal, it achieves this on the ground side in the brake light sensor assembly. Suppose to see 12.5v approx, I saw 6.5v and all my brake lights were working. I remove this wire from the connector, maintained my 12.5 v supplied by combo meter, brake lights and best of all……no warning.

Nice!

I bypassed mine when I changed my CHMSL to LEDs. I actually had LEDs in the back for a while too, but they burned out and I went back to regular bulbs. I'll try that again someday.
