Hello

I recently had all the calipers, brake lines and master cylinder replaced on my car, the brake pedal seem soft even after bleeding the system a couple of times, On the weekend the brake light came on and the fluid was slightly lower on the master cylinder, I topped up the fluid and the light went off, after driving through the mountains.

I stopped after driving and when I was backing up the brake pedal went to the floor, there was brake fluid leaking on the right side of the engine from the antibrake system (ABS) assembly.

I had the car towed to the repair shop and they advised a black seal had blown, do you think this was caused from excessive pressure to the ABS assembly. Do I have to buy a complete assembly or are there any seals available for the ABS Cylinder?

Thanks

Every 1990 ABS failed at least once. Most were replaced with an upgraded unit [new better seals] during the first 10 years of life under warranty.*After 10 years or 100k owners were on their own.

A non leaking junkyard unit from a 91-93 is the most economical method. Why we buy junkers to get ABS and other parts.

Last time I checked MSRP was $1,800 for a new unit.

* The major reason you visited dealer every 90 days was so they could find warrantable items.

But after 2000 those perks were gone [for your 1990 and orginal purchaser].

My 1990 leaked in 1997 at 97,000 and was replaced. We never see an updated unit leak that has had 3 year brake fluid changes.

Waiting too long to change fluids is just asking for it.

Hi,

Can you advise what years are compatable with the 1990 ABS cylinder? is there anyway to find out if the ABS is the modified one over the original? Is there anyway to repair or replace the seals, the seal that is leaking is on the downube that goes from the top to the rear cylinder closest to the firewall.

Thanks for your help!Stewart
