Yesterday's St Louis Post-Dispatch lists a 1990 Q45 for $1200 or best offer. 314-388-2807. I'll try to remember to call tomorrow for details. If its in decent shape it looks like a cheap way for someone to get into an original Q, and have a few grand left over for repairs.

Reminds me of those war movies when someone shouts "Incoming!!" You know bad things are about to happen to the scenery.

Probably at least 10 1990-1993 Q45 in the paper and a few more online between Seattle and Portland. None of them have seen a new timing chain guide, most probably have toasted transmissions or an AAMCO rebuild, and all have over 100,000 miles. I will look at them for any NICO member, but probably would discourage him or her unless it is cherry. The sad news is the first generation Q45s are rapidly disappearing, and Infiniti (Nissan) doesn't care they are losing their legacy flag bearers from the road. This is how they differ from Daimler Benz, in particular.

That is why well maintained cars like Z's 1995 Q45 are such a good buy for those seeking to own one of these early examples. Unless you want the Dr. Frankenstein experience of bringing the dead back to life. Very expensive hobby, that is.

Sic transit G50 Q45.

When Im finished with school and working in something that pays more, I wanna rehab one G50 Q a year, if I can find enough by then. At about $4000-8000/yr, thats arguably cheaper than getting into collecting art or hardcore computing.

Just an FYI... it runs. It shifts smoothly. Mileage is at 200k. transmission fluid is due but not overdue for a change. Interior is average, has minor hail damage upon closer inspection.

Biggest flaw? It intermittently stalls because of what the lady said was a vaccuum leak. Whats a vaccuum leak?

Most vacume leaks are from "Under the Octopus"

Nothing $350 worth of gaskets, hoses and fittings, and a good 12 hours to remove clean, clean some more, then sleep, get all the cuts bandaged up, clean some more, eat, do final cleaning and prep, then put it back to gether, take it back off, because you have an extra hose, then spen 2 hours on the internet begging for help, then finally realizing where it goes, and reasssemble the car.

She probably got a quote for $2,000 to fix it.

Copy down the serial number, and take a trip to the local Infiniti dealership, for a service history.

It could save you thousands more.

Ahhhh, don't feel too bad about the impulse purchase. I'm probably going to buy another Q from a friend, even though it will need a complete interior rehab. Just don't want to see another Q head to the wrecking yard. . .
