A few weeks a ago, the emission/check engine light came on and off for a few days, then stayed off. today I drove the car like normal, than a few hours later, I got in and it wouldn't start. it sounds like wanna start, but wont. when ever the light can on, the car drove really slugish, then kicked in when the light went off. anyone know why, or is having the same problem, thanx...

The engine code stored in the ECU are going to tell you a lot about what the problem is. Pull the codes and let us know what you find. The ECU is mounted behind the passenger side footwell behind the panel on the right side.

Ditto on Mike's comments. The stored codes should tell us a good bit.

ok, i bought a light tester and I tested the fuel pump(getting power), the relays to the pump are good and the controller is good(i think). I tested the controller connector, and its seems like its not gettin power(no light came on the the tester). what could the problem be. I don't know how to mess with the ecu...

Pulling out the ECU and getting the codes is not rocket science....a 10mm socket, a couple of screwdrivers, righty tighty, lefty loosey.... Your 90Q is OBD1 so you can't show up at Autozone and have them pull the codes, it has to be done manually or with a Consult (up to $120 to have them read at the stealership). To go any further you'll need to read up, ask questions and do it yourself.

Since you're on the trail of a fuel problem and have determined that there is power to the pump then maybe you've just flooded the engine trying to get her started. I'm guessing but thinking that the code may be a couple of dead injectors that don't fail until warmed up. Try holding the gas pedal to the floor (ECU cuts off fuel flow) while cranking the engine for at least 30 seconds and see if it starts.

Ok, I checked the ECU and the code was 34(knock sensor). I read on the forums that the knock sensor wont keep the car from starting. I'm going to the dealer and try and pick up the fuel pump controller relay, and if that doesn't work, I'm done with my Q. Maybe I'll get a 90-96 2+2 Z or even a J30. Please help...

If you can hear the pump running (priming the fuel system) for 5 seconds when the key is turned to the ON position then the relay is working. No need to replace it.

KS code 34 by itself will not light up the CEL. Either you've read the codes wrong (turned the screw one too many times) or you're looking at the wrong light on the instrument cluster. It's the amber light below the engine icon.

Assuming you read the codes properly then the lack of codes other than KS leads to a fuel delivery problem. Was the fuel pump making noise like a swarm of bees before the failure? Could you hear it running from the driver's seat? If so, the FPCU (fuel pump control unit) may be burned up. The pic shows the FPCU connector which is mounted under the rear deck, right side. Try bypassing it and running the fuel pump on high speed only. Run a jumper from the pin shown in the pic to ground (the chassis) and see if the engine starts. If it does the FPCU is bad. If it doesn't measure the fuel pressure (43 psi) at the engine past the fuel filter to make sure the pump is working properly.

I put the tester on the connector in the picture(with the key on) and no lights came on. no power to the connector. is this a relay problem. I could hear the fuel pump due to loud music. does this connector(in the pic) get its power from a relay...if i can call someone, it would be better...
