1990 Nissan Stanza Fuel Pump Relay

When I bought my used Stanza, the fuel pump relay connection was rigged with 2 sets of wires with 10 amp fuses instead of the relay. It worked for a few weeks but then it started failing. That's when I found the way it's connected and the wires are heating up too much. The wires work but the relay will not work. Has anyone seen this?
