okay so i recently got a 1990 nissan 300zx na 2+2 automatic, when i bought it it was running fine but on the way home on the freeway it started acting up it wouldnt shift up the rpm would rise but it wouldnt shift up or go above 45 mph (however when i had test driven the car earlier it would) so i pulled over to the side of the road and the car stalled and wouldnt start, we got it started again but same problem as before, and then it stalled again and we tired starting it again and it sounded like we had a dead battery. so we had it picked up and i took the alternator out to test it, its good, and we tired getting it started again and it started up but stalled. Since then i've been checking all the vacuum hoses (haven't finished yet) and the ecu is throwing codes 13 and 34. It almost starts but doesnt, does anyone have any ideas what i can look for or what the problem my be?
thanks.

Well your code 13 is the engine coolant temp sensor circuit and the code 34 is the det. sensor, I would check those connections but usually if the car kicks a code 34 your going to have to do the det. bypass to please the ecu until you can pull the engine to replace it back to it's proper place. Since your checking connections I would check the cas, and ptu connections for corrosion as well. Once those are checked/cleaned you can move onto the other area's as to why your car wont start if it doesnt. Can't help much on the auto trans issue as I don't have one myself.

okay thank you i'll go though and double check all the sensors while im doing the vacuum hoses and i have to disassemble the engine to repair a camshaft seal, so in the process i was going to replace the det. sensor just so i can get it over and done with and out of the way. I looked up some ways to figure out whats wrong with the auto but the only problem is i have to have the car running first so that will be my next move once i get started. thank you.

As I have learned here, the Auto trans in these cars are basicly one big paper weight.. Which is why I have took a few peoples advice and will be doing the 5sp swap..

As far as the trans issue..

When it started doing this, was the car still pulling in the current gear?

Did you try and do a different gear 2 or L ?

Could be a possible shift soleniod issue.. Torque converter could be dirty, check the trans fluid if it smells burnt than the trans is cooked

in drive it would shift up into what im going to assume was second and then it would try to shift higher but its like it wouldnt catch, it wanted to shift it just wasnt happening. Didn't try a different gear, didn't want to accidently ruin something without knowing what exactly was happening. however i think i might of solved the problem with the engine starting, i found a vacuum hose that wasn't connected to anything on one end now its just a matter of finding the place it connects too. i will also check the trans fluid and see if it smells burnt. thank you

thank you! that actually helped a lot, looks like someone goofed up when putting the tubes back on i found two hoses that were connected on one end but no the other and a hose that i'm pretty sure shouldn't even be there due to the fact that it is not in the diagram you showed me above or another diagram i looked at and that its taking the spot of one if not both of the hose ends i did find
