Hi guys,as far as I know, the SOHC came with two different versions of a distributor, Hitachi and Mitsubishi. Does anyone know what issues may arise from interchanging the two?

I have put in an engine in my car that seems to have a different distributor than my previous one. For clarification, lets call the one I've had before (original engine and distributor) A, and the one I've swapped in (the engine which came with a different distributor) B.

After I've swapped in engine and distributor B, I cannot get the timing right, as the engine misfires and does all the things they usually do when you misalign the timing chain distributor. BUT! I've set it all up correctly, checked with the FSM, and this is my 10th time doing this process so I know I did not make a mistake.

Is there a wiring/ECU difference that may be throwing off the timing, since my harness/ECU originally worked with distributor A, and cannot work with B? Can I fix it by swapping in my original distributor, and re-aligning all of the timing components again?

Mainly, I guess I want to know if there is a difference between distributors A and B.

Thanks!

the only thing i noticed was the rotor when ordering parts for a tuneup... Hitachi had a push-on while Mitsubishi uses a small bolt to keep it on da shaft

(useless observation; free bump 4 u!)

I just asked a question about telling the difference between Hitachi and Mitsubishi a few days ago. They gave me this website, which shows pics of both. The rotors stand out more than the caps.

Hope that helps some...
