Ever since I bought my 240 about 3 years ago, the parking brake hasn't exactly worked. This is pretty much just an annoyance being as that the car has a manual transmission and can be left in gear to prevent rolling, but i would like to fix it if possible. Here's the deal, when I pull the e-brake it feels very loose and doesn't have very much effect on the car. It does grab somewhat, but if the incline is more than slight the car will roll. What do I need to do to tighten it or what do I need to replace to make it work properly. Thanks! Jeremy

Could be a couple of things.

A) E-brake just needs adjusting.

Pull off the fake leather handle on the e-brake and you'll see a cable with a bolt an nut on the end. Tighten this down until the nut is flush with the edge on the e-brake when the brake handle is at rest.

B) The more serious problem it could be is that the bracket on the hub at the wheel is broken. This bracket holds the cable in place when you pull the e-brake. Without it, you get next to no braking at all.

The only soultion is to find one at the junkyard.

Most likely choice A. Just tighten the nut(It's 9 or 10 mm IIRC) first, and see how it affects the e-brake
