179k miles on the clock. When I start the car let it idle, it idles perfect, no fluctuation. Once you start driving faint bluish exhaust is emitted when the car is underload of acceleration only. But this only happens until the car gets to normal operating temps.

Is this valve seats? Or do I need a valve adjustment? She pulls like a champ as far as a sohc KA goes.

Most people wouldn't bother to fix this but I'm picky so if its something I can do myself I will.

thnx,

lbrowne

edit: I hope to get my hands on a compression tester soon.

Thanks for telling me something I already know.

Now back to KA specific, that is why I was asking, I thought I read on here that valve seats or valve adjustment could also be the problem - but I can not find the thread.

Maybe I should have been more specific, as I know blue smoke means oil getting into the combustion chamber. Could bad valve seats/seals be a culprit? That was what I was asking, not what edit*makes* blue smoke, if you reread my original post.

what about rings? I know the stock KA rings are to small and weak wich could also cause your smoke. So when the car get's up to temp. the piston expands and makes a tighter seal? that could happen as well

Your rings have hardend and are letting some oil get into the combustion chamber. Not a huge deal, you can still get some miles out of the engine.

going to get a remote starter installed so I can let her idle for 5-10 minutes before I drive her. Hopefully that makes it easier on the ol girl lol

I can be your valve stem seals not your valve seats or your rings are getting weak do a compression test when its cold and after shes warmed up and done smoking . If a difference then its your rings if not then its your valve stem seals which can be replaced with the head still on the car or you can do the old brake fluid trick. add about a cap full of brake fluid to your oil the fluid makes seals rubbery again letting them seal up but eventually youll need to replace them. Hope this answered your question
