Ok so I did the headgasket on my 1990 KA24E, 69k miles the head was out of the car for about two days sitting on a clean towel, I put everything back together and she started right up, my problem is I hear a VERY loud metalic tapping noise coming from the head, it sounds like you're tapping two pieces of metal together. It it is RPM dependent (higher RPM faster rate of tapping, lower RPM lower rate of tapping) it's a NASTY sound. I ran the car for about 15 minutes and it did not go away, if you take off the oil cap when it's running little bits of oil spit out, the head does not seem like it's starved for oil... is it one of the lifters tapping because it drained while the head was out of the car? any other ideas what it might be? the car seems to run and rev fine (all the way to redline) .... Help...
I'm going to go see if I can get a sound clip for you...
