Like the topic says, Late shifts. But only when "pushing it". It shifts fine when driving normally. In WOT will go to 6500 or 7000 sometimes.TIA.

if its an automatic transmission, make sure your overdrive button is in the ON position

Thanks for the reply.I have tried it in both positions. Is there anything in there that overrides the speed sensor or the tach sensor at WOT? Any other ideas? (besides getting a manual trans)

for starters tell me how it behaved in the on or off (overdrive) positions, and why are you beating on your car so bad, slamming the pedal to the metal in any car is not a good thing (bent rods etc) does it shift normally in regular 30-60mph driving conditions?

Same car and transmission and having same issues here except for the fact at WOT mine won't shift at all. I have to get out of it and it won't shift until it drops about 1500 rpm then shifts fine, but one thing I have noticed, last 2 passes at the track my speedo was acting weird. Knew there was no way I could be doing 110mph at the 1/4 mile line in a supposedly stock E motor. Guessing from other posts and issues its probably the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) or its wiring since mine has one that looks brand new on it. Its in garage and I won't work on it till monday, so any ideas here also would help.

edit: Oh and had to do the relearn on local highway a few trips and started shifting fine up until you took it over 80% throttle then it wouldn't shift.

Ok, never thought I would get a lecture for "beating" on my car in these forums, but, I guess many people dont live in areas that the normal interstate speed is 80 and no one lets you in unless you are up to speed.(Especially truckers)(Whew) The shifts are normal ? (3000 or less) at any speed or OD position if you are under- say, 50 or 60 percent throttle. after that it goes up exponentially. I know that higher revs are normal for WOT but what is normal???Also.... Recently it has been skipping 4th (at wot in OD) and going right into 5th.Bad transmission?

Do you mean skipping 3rd, going into OD? I wasn't aware of Nissan making a 5spd automatic in 1990.

Nice Ajax, do you have any info on the original problem? If not then why did you post? I guess you really need to be specific in this forum, otherwise the smart asses will just overwhelm you with bulls***. Yes, the car does have 4 gears and OD which I Mistakenly called 5th gear. Happy?

Not trying to be a smart a**- I just wanted clarification. I thought autos of that time were a total of 4 speeds- 3+OD.I own a manual, but have driven a fair number of autos- most of them shift upwards of 5000 at WOT. If you're flooring it, then the computer assumes you have some need to accelerate fast, and therefore will keep you in a lower gear for longer- 6000rpm would not be unreasonable- 7000rpm is roughly redline.I can't really offer much opinion because I'm not driving yours, and have not driven WOT in an auto KA, but it kinda sounds like its doing what its supposed to.

Thanks for the clarification, guess im just a little thin skinned. I guess it does shift just before redline, which is a good thing. I appreciate everyones help with this "percieved" problem. I will eventually get a manual transmission for this slightly underpowered 240.Untill then I'll just wear this one out. Shouldn't be long, 150k on it. EOT
