I'm looking at trading my 2002 Yamaha R6 for a 1990 300ZX Auto transmission, I've owned a '93 before and I LOVE these cars, but if I got this Z I'd wanna convert to a 5 speed, did a search, nothing. So if you guys can give me any tips for the conversion, price estimations, parts needed, and/or if it's even worth it it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

search over at twinturbo.net - been covered many times. It is probably cheaper to buy a 5spd in the first place from what i've seen. Also you should know that the auto turbos are smaller and produce 20hp less than the manual versions

Found out the swap only costs about 2k, rough estimate though, considering my bike is only worth about 3k on the street and how nice the Z is it may be worth it, I'm gonna check with a local shop I used to take my old Z to and see what they tell me.

Bike is going to need a new transmission OR shift lever, 1st gear and 6th gear from an '03-'05 model R6, due to having only 3 dogs, where the other models mentioned have 5. Shift lever is bent so shifting from 1st to 2nd is becoming an issue, at first I thought the plates were just going to need to be replaced but after some research the '02 R6 is prone to this failure, meaning the engine must come off, and be taken apart. I can do it myself, not a HUGE job or anything, it's just that it's winter and I'm in love with the Fairlady, so my decision is being swayed of course, bike being my only DD as of now.

Funny as it may be the Fairlady isn't TT, it is a 1990 model with like 100+k miles, only additions are a body kit I believe, white, tan interior.. from what I've seen it looks healthy but I haven't seen it in person yet so it hasn't undergone my vigorous inspections.. I pretty much lived in the engine bay of my previous Z so I should be able to point out anything unusual..

From the outside looking in it doesn't seem worth it, and really if I think about spring and summer it doesn't seem worth it, especially with it being an AT NA, but.. lol..

well in that case, find atleast a decent 5-speed NA. that way its fun right out the box, no need to spend a couple grand or a couple weeks workin on it just to get it to where you want to start having fun. if i were you id look around on thee intranets and take a flight and drive one back home. just my .02

good luck though

Yeah man I decided against it, made a few calls and it would cost me between $2500 and $3000 just to make it 5speed with NA parts, not even TT parts so I think it's a better idea to just find an NA 5speed or save my cash and buy a TT flat out. In a perfect world I'd have 10k to buy a Z here in my city white, TT, 74k miles ORIGINAL OWNER, bone stock other than ecu chip, original leather.. everything. Makes me sick lol
