Post

This is my first post, though I have ended up here a few times from Google searches and learned some valuable info.

I recently got a brand new 1990 Nissan D21 truck for FREE! A couple of months have passed and I am about $2,500 into my free truck.

My wife demands that it be removed from the garage due to the onset of winter. This requires me getting the door locks to work so I can leave my truck on the driveway.

Both of the door locks on my truck were dysfunctional, so I ordered a pair of new cylinders and had them keyed to match my ignition key. I am now trying to install these and have run into a problem.

I do not see a secure way that the cylinder linkage attaches to the door latch mechanism. There is a small tab protruding from the yellow connector that appears to go into a circular hole on the latch, but nothing holds it in place. Am I missing a part or is my connector broken or what?? I can only find "exploded" diagrams of these parts and I prefer my installation to connect securely in at least a few places. Maybe this obvious connection method is completely wrong, but I have tried a number of variations that did not look right.

It is a shame that at least one was not connected when I started the process to have a clue. Maybe this is a common problem.

Thanks for any help with this. I have tried to link a photo below, but if it cannot be viewed I hope the above describes this adequately.

Thanks,
Johnnie

Thanks. That exploded view was the diagram I had printed for reference. As a matter of fact, it is in my picture I linked. :-)

HOLDER (80510J) is the yellow piece that rides on the rod (80514) in the LEVER (80527). The SNAP HOLDER (80512A) inserts into the yellow holder and the rod goes through it to keep it in place.

The end of the SNAP HOLDER appears to go into a hole in the latch, but nothing secures it. Maybe my two snap holders have had whatever secures them in the hole snapped of from wear?

A drive to the Nissan dealership solved the problem.

Seems the old clips were indeed broken. The new yellow clips have protruding horns that are inserted into the latch hole and the white insert works as a lock before the connecting rod is inserted.

US$13 for the two new yellow clips and locking inserts.

Hopefully, this photo link works. If so you can see one clip installed into the latch with the lock clip. That will sit in the white lever and the rod will be through it and locked in place. The dirty yellow one is the old one.

This would have been much less trouble if one of the two clips was not broken on my truck so I could check the other side. Maybe I should have purchased some spares.

This weekend I am installing aftermarket power locks for my alarm, so who knows when I will need the key again anyway. :-)

Great when I bought my truck drivers lock turned but no lock and it was one of those little clips also, I got mine from a junk yard for 1 dollar LOL but still works. Been a while cannot remember which one it was but was on a rod that linked to lock

The parts guy did not have to ask me anything about my vehicle, so I am guessing it is a common problem.

He just looked at my old one I brought in and brought back the parts.

Yes plastic breaks on the older stuff very common issue on all cars and trucks. Plastic dries out gets brittle and breaks

Hey there...where does one go about buying a new door cylinder lock? All I can find online are ignition cylinder locks.

I used to see them on eBay, but a quick google got me to...

https://www.tnaautoparts.com/1990-nissa ... 51952.html

which has them at $18 each. Regretfully, I paid the dealer price.
