I have an Idea as to why my car doesn't have the torque off the line as my mom's car. My transmission was replaced before I got it back when the car had over 76,000 miles on it at my local Infiniti dealership. I talked with the parts manager and he was telling me that there was an Infinti that looked like mine that had the transmission swapped out due to it slipping and they put a later model reman transmission in from either a 94' or a '95 by accident and by the time they realized it, the customer had already picked up the car and left. When I got home that night, I took a look under my mom's car which is a '91 and noticed that there is an opening on the bottom side of the bellhousing with a metal screen over it and you can see the torque converter. It is a square shaped opening. I then looked under my car and did not see any opening. I just want to know if any body here with a '94 or 95 could take a look under your car and see if there is an opening or not under the bellhousing. I also ask the same for the ones that have a '90-'92 and see if this also applies. My objective is to see if all of the earlier trannys have openings and all of the 93 and up models have no opening. If this is the case then that will mean that mine is more then likely the car that my local Infinti dealership installed the wrong transmission in and will also anwser the question about my lack of power from a stop. Thanks in advance.

I think there was a thread or two that mentioned this observation, but I don't remember.

Don't think either of my 95 or the 2000 are open at the torque converter.

The reman. transmissions may or may not come with the vented bell housing... so I don't think it's a good indicator. I had one reman in Q1 with the vents... maybe the one that was still in there when I sold her? The reman. facility seemed to just use the next bellhousing/drain pan, etc. in line. I had one with two "remanufactured" stickers on top of each other... scary.

Theres no way you can really tell, my 94 has the vent..... Maybe when they replaced yours they just used your old bellhousing...

BTW, a 94 trans will not cause this much difference in lower end power. First gear is less than 10% different! you wont feel 10% difference.. well you may feel it but its not explaining what you talking about... certainly not significiant...

If you want to know if you have the 90-93 or 94-96 gears go out in 1st gear and measure RPM vs speed with stock size (or properly disclosed) tires.
