i have never seen an r12 can with the oil already in it. best thing to do is pour in 2 ounces for every major component replaced. comp, evap core, and drier=6 ounces but thats a little much. maybe 5 ounces. just pour into the compressor or one of the lines. that or some a/c machines will add it for you.

I'm going to ask a question that I hope is not dumb. I was looking on google for mineral oil to buy. The most common result was mineral oil used as an enema...?? Where can I find some automotive refrigerant mineral oil quick?

thx.

any auto parts store will have it. mostly they stock the newer synthetic stuff that will work for both.

The A/C works again!!

Well, I installed the compressor, dryer, and new O-rings, and I took a chance that the expansion valve was okay. It was, thank goodness. That saved me about $50, a bunch of curse words, and I don't know how many hours to install. I put in about 2 1/2 cans of freon and about 6.8 ounces of mineral oil ($5.00/quart at Napa ). For most of the oil charge, I used a Robinair oil injector (part # 16258). I was looking on ebay for pressurized oil charges, but this looked like the best idea because you don't need to discharge the system to add the oil. I only paid about $16 for the injector, and it worked great.

So nice to have A/C again, especially now that the weather is getting cooler.
