You should see markings right about the crankshaft and timing should be right on 15 deg

you can use the black loop of wire that is just hanging around the PTU instead of hooking up to cylinder one. It's easier, and that is what the loop of wire was designed for.

The timing light strobes, and every time it lights up, the white mark on the crank pulley needs to be at 15 degrees.

Silly question.... Are you using the front left spark plug? ( when facing the engine from the open hood)

When you set the timing light advance to 15 degrees, what are you reading? ( the pointer should be at 0 degrees)
How does your car sound like when it's running? Does it seem to run fine?

Should also have numbers and letters... PFR5B-11, or PFR6B-11, OR...PFR7B-11 written somewhere on the box. Not quite sure, but I think the 5, 6 and 7 refer to heat ranges of the spark plug.

It does look like a number that's reccommended by NGK.
Apparently, the 300ZX can be tempermental if you don't use the correct spark plugs. Haven't really found out yet, since I only buy NGKs for her.

That's the American NGK parts finder...you should be able to find your plugs there. Here's the results for my car...

( Btw, I'm using the same ones you are and I'm having a few issues of my own, but I don't think they're related)

good luck and let us know what happens...

That site lists the PFR5B-11, I have the PFR6B-11. Either should work fine. But that is the plug you need for your car, otherwise, you will never know if that is your problem. The 300zx is very weird about which spark plug it uses.
