hello everyone. there are some beautiful z's on here!

i just acquired a '90 300zx NA 2-seater from a relative. It needs a bit of work. I've been taking my Honda to a good repair shop for years, but I dunno about the prices they're telling me, I'm hoping I can get some more opinions. i do computers, not cars, so its all greek to me.

the rear differential needs to be replaced. they quoted me $1650 parts, and $750 labor (keep in mind I live near DC, cost of living is very high) they said that's worst-case scenario, they won't know the exact extent of the probs until they get into it. they told me most manufacturers sell a kit, but nissan doesn't, so the price is higher.

do this sound right?

any place I can get this done right cheaper in the montgomery county, md area?

thanks in advance. i'm sure you'll be seeing me on the forums

I have to know why they feel the diff needs to be replaced? it's a short snout R200 easilly found in junkyards and pretty much bulletproof

you might want to check with your local z car club (zcca.org) and find out who in your area they send their cars to

Alot of shops dont like working on this car. even alot of nissan dealers. Management in the dealers that do work on them only allow certain techs to be working on them. Because of this some shops will inflate thier prices to make it worth their while to work on it. If you can find a shop that specializes in the Z32 or a dealer that boasts they have a skilled Z32 tech take it there. In our dealer there is 3 of us that feel completely comfortable working on them. Its rare to see that many in nissan dealers. AND we dont inflate our prices to make it worth our while. The inflated prices typically are put there to try and blow you out so they dont have to work on the car. but if you go for it they have made it worth it to them.
