Hello. My son has been told by 2 shops that the #3 fuel injector on his 1990 300ZX 2+2 (NA) is not working. Repair estimates ranged from $800.00 for one injector to $2500.00 to replace all 6. The estimates have made this project one we are willing to do ourselves.

Our questions are:1. Should we replace all 6 injectors or just the #3 injector?2. Should we use new or remanufactured injectors?3. Should we replace the wiring harness when we replace the injector?4. Can someone supply a step by step replacement procedure?

Any advise you can offer would be great.

Welcome to Nico!you might want to search a bit somepoe posted an article on thsi some time ago1. just replacing the bad one is fine, thats the way nissan would handle it2. you're gonna get varying opinions here, new aftermarkets don't seem to cost much more than quality rebuits form my experience3. if the wire harness is hardened and brittle either replace the harnedd of the hardered pigtails, if they are fine, it's ok to leave them, a touch of di-electric grease on the contacts is never a bad idea4. uh... I kinda answered that already, search and hopefully you can find it

wow 800$ to replace one injector is retarded!! you can get a full 555cc kit AND an ecu flash AND a new plenum AND new fuel rails AND new injector connectors for less than $2500.

jesus.

The reason it is so expensive is because of labor. You have to pull the upper-plenum to replace fuel injectors. If you have the money to replace all the injectors and your Z has a lot of miles on it, you might as well replace them all as pulling the upper-plenum is not an easy task.

Hey, thanks for the advise. This is a kid's car, which we got for a steal at about $3000.00. Since my son is a student still he does not have lots of money to spend on upgrades just yet. The objective is to keep the car running well until he can afford modifications. Current mileage is aout 115,000.

The repair price seems way out of line so we want to do this job ourselves.

Below is a link to some good guys in Georgia. They have 'reworked' injectors for $40.00. We could replace all 6, all the o-rings and gaskets for about $300.00 and some hours under the hood.

What do you think? Is it worth going with the reworked injector(s) to keep him on the road.

As soon as I figure out how, I'll included a picture of the car. Some work needed to restore it but its a realy sharp looking car, especially for a kid.

Z1 is a GREAT company. Reworked injectors would probably be fine for a while, they probably wont last as long as new ones, but they will work.

z1 can probably install them with alot more competence than the other garage and you'll probably save about 1500$ off your previous offer.

I've met some of the guys from Z1, seem to be good guys, a litte slow to ship but otherwise good products, and it's not a bad idea to tackle the jb yourself, as once you've done this you'll likely feel more comfortable tackling future mods and repairs, it's a time consuming PITA but it's all just spinning wrenches, if you take your time and stay organized you shouldn't have a problem
