i recently purchased a non-running 1990 240sx for a project car. it has been sitting for about 2 years, ran before it sat. the owner said it started about a month ago with starting fluid but wouldnt stay running. they suspected fuel pump. i now own the car and upon trying to start it up get nothing. the lights and bells come on, but all i can hear under the hood is a soelenoid click or something of that sort. this is my first import project car. i am used to working on motorcycles. does anyone have any suggestions on where i should start looking? thanks, chris

hit your start with a hammer while someone is "cranking" the key, if it starts your starter is seized. thats what it sounds like to me. also if you want to get balzy, run a jumper wire from you positive terminal to the thin wire coming out of the starter, if the car tries to turn over, the roblem is in your colum. if it doesnt your starters bad or your wiring to the starter is bad. If you get 12v+ with a volt meter at the fat wire on your starter(red to the fat wire, black to ned on battery) you know that the power feed for the starter is good. do thoes tests and tell us what happened.

battery is good. i had to manually push the clutch saftey switch and then it turned over really slow about half a turn. thats all i got. on another note, now i know that my clutch master cylinder is locked up and thats why the pedal wouldnt depress enough to hit the switch. any ideas on that? new one is only like 25 bucks. at least i think its the master, could be the slave tho i guess. know any easy way to check that out? thanks guys

okay now car turns over, but sitting overnight, something is drawing power and killing the battery. it goes from 13.1 volts to less than 2 by morning. any ideas on what would cause that. no interior lights are staying on.

If you battery is bad it will lose power. You should have more than 13volts when the car is running (although you didn't say when you got that reading)

Either fully charge the battery properly with a charger or try a known working good battery.

A bad battery most times can easily power stereo and dash lights.

i repaired a bad fuel pump power wire and got everything ready to run. had battery charging on a battery tender all week. it had 13 volts out of the car. car would then turn over and start for about 5 seconds at a time before dying. restarted it about 6 or 7 times thinking it was just working air out of the freshly filled fuel lines. then went to start it on the 8th try and just heard a click and the car wouldnt turn over. recharged the battery all night and still got the same click in the morning. any ideas
