1990 240sx sohc turns over, wont run

my 1990 240sx sohc. the engine has spark, gets fuel. when you are turning it over it may run for a few seconds while you keep the key turned, but when you let off the key the car wont stay running. any ideas. thanks

What was the recent work just completed?

Sounds like timing to me.

Distributor could be off. Put the engine at TDC and check the rotor placement... I've been off a tooth almsot everytime installing one. Simple fix though

How did you test it for fuel? If you're not sure, then here's an easy way to test the fuel pump and filter:Disconnect the fuel hose from the top of the fuel filter and insert a long length of spare hose into the top of the fuel filter with the other end draped over the fender going into a catch can placed on the ground. Now turn the ignition key to the run position but DO NOT START THE ENGINE. You should see fuel going into the can at a good rate for several seconds.

the car had been sitting for a while, thats what I to drain the bad gas out
