Did some searching, and did not notice any threads that give the info I needed. I just have one quick question.

I need to pull the engine on my 1990 240sx. For those who have done so, what is the easiest thing to do, in regards to the transmission? I tried getting to the trans bolts from underneath, but was not able to get the ones on the side loose. It's an awckward position. I haven't even attempted to get at the ones on top yet. They look extremely cramped. Is it possible to pull the engine without the trans, or am I going to have to take them out together?

Thanks,droll

you want to leave the trans in the car. the only way to get to the bell housing bolts is from underneath the car. You need a long extension to get to it.

Thanks. So even get the upper ones from underneath? The problem is I don't have a compressor at home to use, so muscling it from on my back has been difficult. Are you suggesting say a flex head socket and about a 12-18 inch extension?

yes... but a trick is to undo the trans mount from the body and let the rear of the trans hang down to give you more room over the top of the trans.

Do you recommend draining the trans fluid as well? I did not see any way of doing that other than taking the pan off.

Thanks for the help.

no you dont need to do that. your not doing any trans work. if you take the drive shaft out you may have a problem with fluid pouring out of the trans there. I used a peice of drive shaft i cut off an old one to plug that point.
