Right now I'm reading Automotive Paint Handbook by: John Pfanstiehl. It's been a great wealth of info. I only plan on prepping for paint. Then get it finished and painted by a pro.

Cody240 wrote:what up twitch your real name is nick right i think thats what you said either way umm as for you op i think you should read up on painting and what not but from personal experience you need to give the car a wash then after that you sand it down now weather you are doing the real deal or spray bombing it you should just lightly sand the paint till its dull is normally enough you dont have to go to metal to get the paint to stick but if the paint is cracking then sand that area evenly until the cracks disappear then after you have sanded the whole car (or the parts you are painting) go back over it with a paint cleaning agent (you can get some at auto zone or really any parts store) it is like paint thinner accept it just removes crap on the paint. now after you are all done you have to mask of the car i suggest painters tape ( the blue kind) and some news paper or some form of paper that when painted over won't bleed through very easy then put down a layer of tape as tight as possible to the edge of the part you are painting making sure that you cover the edge of the part you don't as best as possible this makes it easier to then mask of the rest of the area not being painted with out trying to move a whole sheet of paper to get in every nook and cranny of the body work ( i also suggest putting a piece of tape along the edge of the paper then put it on the car so again less work in the future) now once you are happy with the masking give the car a look over to make sure all the points are covered and that you clean it nicely. at this point prep your paint by mixing it and what not and putting it in the gun or (if you are spray bombing it) shake the can lol then paint it making sure to make nice even strokes that continue a little past the end of the part you are painting in order to make the paint flow and not look interupted (if you can if not try to blend the paint together gradually if there are interuptions) oh and also dont lay in on thick the first coat take your time and do it right cause you can always do another coat (also make sure you have a period between coats for the paint to dry a little that way the next coat can stick better and not run). I know this seems like alot but it makes for a nice paint job. now after you are happy with the paint coverage let the paint dry for a couple hours then let it dry for maybe a few more depending on what the paint looks like. now with the paint dry look at it and look for runs and orange peel if you have some take some very high grit sand paper (like 1000 or higher) and wet sand the area in lightly till it goes away in and go with the body line dont sand in random directions you will end up with a bad scuffing on the paint after the wet sanding is done buff the car and give it a nice shine then stand back and admire. wow ok longest post of my life good luck hope this helped and again read up on the process as well you can learn a lot. oh and post pics

don't spray bomb, no matter how hard you try you cannot get the same results as a compressed air gun no matter how much clear you slather on it's not the same and it doesnt last as long.

painting isnt that bad it makes good expierence.1. what u need is a hvlp paint gun and if possbile make sure u get a1.7 for the 2k primer.2. ALSO make sure ur COMPRESSOR is strong enough. u need around 25 cfm for the paint to spray right.3. i say rent a booth it cost about 60 bucks and u can use the shops compressir and room. it makes it wat easier.

4. sand the car wid 320 until the clear is dull or to make it faster u can use 220 then move up to 320 or 400 doesnt matter.5.then 2k primer for the bondo spots then sand it to 320 again.6. then sealer7.b/c8/c/c.then couple days later wetsand it then buff it.

no no dude i wasn't trying to put you on blast sorry man i must have messed up my typing when i wrote that it was ment for the OP not you i was just saying what i did on my stang and i know your car ain't done and i actually think you did a great job on the paint and about the meet that was like the third time i had gone to that meet and i didn't know anybody so ya im not mad ( i hope your not either) i should have gone around and socialized more but i am not very good at that lol so again sorry if you thought i was putting you on blast it was not my intention and besides your paint looks hella better than mine did when i first did the primer job oh and sorry for the tread jack dont mind me.
