1990 240SX when I step on the gas it feels like I am short a couple sylanders, I get misfires and backfires and have no power what-so-ever. I have replaced plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I then took it to my mechanic who thought it sounded like a MAF, AIV, or EGR valve problem and he tested all that and they weren't the problem so he recommended I take it to Nissan. Nissan states that since my mechanic drilled a hole in the EGR valve they won't diagnose any further until the EGR is replaced!!

I need to know if anyone has any ideas and have an urgent need for this as I am supposed to be leaving next Friday for a new job and need to drive this thing 800 miles to get there!

Any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated as quickly as possible! My mechanic also cleaned all of the electronic connectors of the green deposits to eliminate that!!

Also, no codes from the ECU and he also tested my fuel system!

Thanks!

Few explinations:

1. Cam timing has slipped2. MAF connection is bad3. You have a serious leak of some sort allowing un-metered air into the intake tract.

When you say the MAF connection is bad--and since I have an Injen cold air intake on it, I should check that connection--correct? Also, I am pretty sure my mechanic checked the CAM but I will make sure. And when you say "un-metered air" I should check the Cold air intake as well--right?

You might need to replace that EGR .because during normal operation of the engine it uses more vacuum at idle to slightly lean the air /fuel mixture .which basically creates a loss of power scenario .if your mechanic drilled another hole in it it might be pulling more than normal vacuum through the valve causing the EGR valve to stick open and work causing that loss of power .and check your fuel injectors harness with a noid light tester or pulse width injector tester .A leaking or elecrical problem having injector might be possibly throwing more than neccesary fuel in a cylinder then instead of that excess fuel being burned in the cylinder it gets burned inside of your cat conv .which causes the backfire .so check those things and I hope that works for you.

Well I gotta tell ya, I am pretty stumped! I picked the car up at Nissan this morning and I swear the damn thing hasn't run this good in 6 months! And according to the Nissan report they didn't do anything!!! The mechanic sealed the hole he drilled and I asked him twice if he felt it needed to be replaced and he said no! I am going to leave well enough alone for right now and see what happens!
