1990 240sx engine trouble

Ok, ive been working on my 240 for 3 days straight, so far ive gotten it to start but the engine shakes badly while its idling when the gas is pushed the engine wants to shut off, its shooting out alot of blue smoke from the exhaust when revved.

blue smoke normally means burning oil, check your timing, that may be your shaking/idling and throttle response problem

Could have a bad head gasket, could be bad rings, could be leaking through the seals in the head. Could be alot of things. DO a coolant pressure test. Do a compression test. That will help you diagnose the problems a little bit easier. Also, if you dont have one or dont know how or what either of those tests are, then take it to a reputalble shop and have them do a compression and pressure test on the engine to see where you are losing oil.

the start of it was the EGR valve going bad, i replaced that, the wires and plugs, and put a new oxygen sensor on it, had it started while the distributor was turned all the way to the right.

nope, i got it to start up again, still running rough, i drained out the old gas and replaced that, pulled the spark plugs and they look fouled already , checked the timing and the cam is off by 3 teeth to the right after putting the engine at TDC, distributor points to the #1 plug tho, is there a way to adjust the cam timing without pulling the engine out?

ok took the valve cover off and turned over the engine, its dumping alot of oil through the valve stem seals, time to replace em........
