Car: 1990 240SX Auto Mods to come...........

Post

Greeting to all and what a great site!!

I just bought a 1990 240SX stock. Auto Trans. Heres my question:

When I pull the key out of the ignition the car loses all power. ie the seat belts, the radio, the clock in the cluster. Is there a main constant power fuse for the constant power from the battery? The car was in an accident just before I bought it. Battery area was damaged.

Got a great deal and alot of connections in the car biz so I can get that stuff fixed for cheap

Other possible link to issue: The transmission shift linkage is not adjusted correctly so you have to push the shifter way up( not easy like it should be) to get the key out. Must shift just out of hard peark to start the car. The shifter is off by 1 gear but I go by feel so its no big deal. Also trans slips in 2nd and runs rough when trying to coast at highway speeds...ie atlanta 75-95 mph...lol

Looking foward to any help out there and thanks in advanced!

There are fuses located in the drivers kick panel, and under the hood in the fuse box. Check them all. one is likely blown. also check the 2 connectors plugged into the positive battery cable make sure they are clean and fully connected.

Well I checked all the fuses/relays. The box behind the battery and the one under the intake duct work by the air filter/and the one under the dash. No blown fuses. Checked the connections and cleaned with contact cleaner. No Go. Fixed the trans position issue and no help. Did find out that the exterior lights work with no key in so I have some power when the key is off. Just no power to interior stuff. Seat belts, Cluster, dome light, and radio memory. I went to buy a haynes manual and told that Advanced Auto Parts could not even get on. I like those because they have the wiring diagrams. I also checked all the wires by the crash area and they are all intact.Any other ideas? Do cars this old have crash sensors like the newer models. I dont think they do because I have no air bags but at this point without wiring diagrams I shooting in the dark.

Thanks,atl240driver
