Actually happened a while ago, but I was taking the car off the road at the time due to school and being unable to work on it. Now, I'm back, and trying to fix the problem. The one relevant thread search seemed to pop up was fairly old and I wasn't too happy with what I saw (though I may be in denial).

Driver's side door won't open from inside or out. The power lock handle seems to move, but the door behaves as if it is locked. The handle fully pulls up when trying to open it. I can get the inside panel about 90% off to get a look at it, and the rod running from the power lock handle towards the back of the car seems to move, can't see anything else. Getting parts in MA is a b**** and a half, so I'd like to avoid cutting/destroying any pieces to get at the lock and fix it.

Anyone have any decent advice for 1. approaches to take from the top through the window slot2. removing the inside panel without breaking it3. ways to verify what part is broken/disconnectedor any other miscellaneous help?

Edit: In case it is relevant, the windows are also power. forgot to mention, there is no keyhole on the passenger side, assuming the previous owner in some bout of silliness covered it with something (probably bondo or some other filler). some of the locking system may have been replaced as well, since there is one key for the ignition and doors and an entirely different key for the hatch.
