Alright now I've been doing some research on possible swaps for my 1990 240SX and I've come down to the ever so common SR20DET, RB25DET, or the CA18DET. I regards to plain desire I don't want a SR20 because they are a very common swap in 240's but my question is which setup of three is more beneficial for a drifter setup in a 240sx. I have had so many discussions saying that the RB motor is to heavy and throws of the balance of the vehicle but I thought that could be compensated with a more heavy duty suspension system please tell me what you guys think is the better setup.

Sounds like you need to do some searching, maybe ride in a few 240s with different setups.

The CA18DET is an awesome engine, but its lower torque output might not be what your looking for with drifting.

Any RB setup is going to cost money.

Personally if I were to make a drift car it would probably consist of a Ka24de-t because I really wouldn't have to worry about tearing stuff up. KA's are fairly cheap and I cheap T25 setup can give you 200-250rwhp and cost you under $1k. I don't know, its your car do what you want with it.....

Welcome to NICO, Rbtuning32.

Whoever told you that the RB motors throw of the balance of the car to any significant degree is wrong. Sure, it's added weight over the wheels, but it's not that much (at least not relative to the total weight of the car) and it certainly can be compensated for. I mean, depending on your setup, you can scoot your seat about a few inches and get back to the stock weight distribution.

There's a LOT of misinformation floating around out there. For instance, the only RB transmission that you'll ever use that is stronger than the KA transmission is the RB25 transmission. If you go with an RB20, the transmission internals are identical to the KA. Rest easy, though, because the KA transmission has demonstrated an incredible degree of strength in KA-T applications.

I'm not going to solve any issues for you, man. It's your decision, from purchase to install. I would recommend that you swing by the 240sx General forum and check out the engine-specific forums to get an idea of what you can expect in each motor.

Take it easy and again, welcome!

engines dont make a car drift. Suspensions/tires/driver makes the car do stuff like that.

your best swap for drifting is a light flywheel, clutch pack LSD and good rubber

you can drift a stock KA24E

If I were to build a drift car it would probably be powered by a lightly built, reliable, well cooled KA. And spend the real money on suspension and differencial.

I have an rb20, cost about $2000 to swap myself. I've heard rb's are hard to drift because of the weight.... And well... I dont know how to explain it other than, "BS". With skill you can drift anything. With this swap I believe my car drifts better... IMO.
