I have a Exedy Stage 2 Clutch.

Not to sure what this is called but:

The part where the input shaft connects to the clutch rattles back and forth a little and the springs can be turned by hand.

Is this normal?

We removed the transmission because we thought the throwout bearing was going because I would sometimes hear a grinding as I depressed the clutch and while the clutch was depressed I would hear a clacking sound. This didn't happen all the time, it was random when it would act up. While we were putting the transmission back on we noticed this problem and wondered if this could be the culprit

lol

No you are fine. The springs are supposed to be free, I thought the same thing the first time I did my clutch. I have an Exedy Stage 1.

That noise you heard was most likely your throwout bearing. Just replace that, the clutch, get your flywheel surfaced and don't forget about the pilot bushing.

What about where the input shaft connects to the clutch? (the round part with the teeth right in the middle of the pic) It moves back and forth and side to side quiet a bit.

No that is normal too. Real quick though where did you purchase this clutch? Please don't tell me EBAY.

No lol Phase2MotorTrend

Here's a quick video of the clutch and the moving. If you could look at it, I would be very grateful!http://media.putfile.com/Clutch-65

It's really loud and scares me...

The reason it moves is so it can damper vibrations other wise it would wear out the spring hub. once you install the entire assy it sits nice and firm against the flywheel so no need to worry. If you have any doubts give PHASE2 a call and I'm sure they can put your mind at ease.

Also, I did replace the throwout bearing. How can you tell if a throwout bearing is bad by looking at it? It looked just like the new one, the only difference I could tell is that it felt like there was sand in it and it made it a little harder to turn.. but not much.
