Has anyone had a timer control unit fail?

This is from a 1991 Q45 with 137K miles: http://picasaweb.google.com/pp...lUnit

My Q has 133K miles and right now I think the timer control unit is kinda funky because the intermittent wiper function is acting up:

Wiper relay/Amp is good

Wiper motor was recently replaced.

Usually the stalk switch needs replacement [wear and tear = dirt inside].

T3 uses brand new parts because we cannot take a chance of having a failure in 2 years even though new parts are only warrantied for 12 months..

People who don't understand mechanical/electrical engineering get a mental disease called "ever since" ........ ever since you worked on X and then Y or Z fails it must be your fault because I paid you money a year or 2 ago.

Switches or contacts fail more often than electronics unless the electronics are over heated or overloaded.

What's the P/N? Do you have a spare timer or a spare stalk you can install?

I have some of that "Ever since" disease because "Ever since" Last summer my car has been idling worse than when I got in March.

8/89-2/93 is all the same part number in Nissan FAST.

But the part number is: 28551-C9976- then there is a "B" off to the side.

What do you guys think of the oxidized connectors?

It never hurts to clean oxidation even though it's probably a problem with the stalk (as Q45T*ch postulated) but that's also the same P/N as my spare. Would you like to borrow it to test your theory?

I forgot to mention I replaced the wiper stalk with the one from the 1991 Q45 with 137K miles. Not the best way to do it but what are the chances that one was bad too.

But thanks for the offer Mike but this timer control unit is so hard to get out. I plan on resolding all the connections and then installing the good one.

I wouldn't go resoldering things just for the heck of it. Some of the components are bound to be temperature sensitive. Kind of like doing brain surgery to try to prevent a headache...
