To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket units out there. I would check eBay or our classifieds for used units if you have confirmed that it's an issue.

an aftermarket FPCU seems scary if it exists.... Just get a known good used one.

You could probably reverse engineer one for 3 - 5 times the cost, but why bother?

Friend of mine was able to rebuild my FPCU by purchasing the damaged chips and bits at a local electronics store, then soldering them on after yanking the old ones. Total cost was $16 with shipping.

Took him a few hours to do it, and we waited quite a while for the parts to come in. Fortunately he's a hobbyist, so he didnt mind too much. Its better just to go to a wrecking yard and grab one. Grab two if you can and never let go.

I'm going to have to revise my prorated annual cost to maintain and repair an old Q upward by 12-15% to reflect part [tires, brake, misc] price increases.

New Parts usually represent 55% of the bill

Based on an 8 year life: the fuel pump and FPCU [change labor] now cost $125-$150 per year prorated.

Every Q owner [old import lux car] should have at least one wrecked parts car in the backyard, heck it would almost pay to build a cheap structure, to hid it from the neighbors. See the economics of paying $500 for one.
